This class provides an overview of the preparatory knowledge required to ensure a successful transition from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM. CMS recommends that actual training for the use of the new ICD-10 code set should not begin until 2013.

In the meantime, the World Health Organization stressed that past experience demonstrates that countries providing preparatory education prior to the actual implementation had a smoother & more successful transition to ICD-10.

Sparkle Sparks, MPT, HCS-D, COS-C

Sparkle is a physical therapist who’s worked in home health since 1994 as a direct care provider, consultant, PPS analyst, staff educator, and OASIS and ICD-9 Coding trainer. She earned the Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) and served as a national advisory member for the Board of Medical Specialty Coding. She has provided coding and OASIS training to thousands of home care providers throughout the country. Sparkle is the 2007 recipient of the Excellence in Homecare Award presented by the American Physical Therapy Association and is a Senior Associate Consultant with OASIS ANSWERS, Inc.
